Punjab Police secured the extradition of Amritpal Singh — who is also reported as Amrit Dalam — from the Republic of Moldova and brought him to India in mid‑September 2026. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav described the transfer as the first‑ever extradition secured by the Punjab Police from a European country.

According to authorities, the Punjab Police team took custody of the detainee in Chisinau on 11 September 2026; the team and the detainee arrived at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on 12 September 2026.

Moldovan courts authorised the extradition earlier in the year: a Chisinau court reportedly granted the extradition on 26 May 2026, and the Centru Sector Court of Appeal reportedly dismissed the detainee’s appeal on 16 July 2026, making the extradition order final.

Punjab Police had publicly announced the individual’s detention in Moldova in March 2026, linked to an Interpol Red Notice requested by the force.

Reports indicate the suspect left India in October 2024 using a forged passport and moved through the United Arab Emirates and other countries before reaching Moldova. Media accounts use multiple names and aliases for the individual, including 'Amritpal Singh', 'Amrit Dalam' and, on an alleged forged passport, 'Gurpal Singh'.

A four‑member Punjab Police team travelled to Moldova and took custody of the detainee. Reporting names the team as led by SP Bikramjit Singh Brar, with Inspector Pushvinder Singh, SI Jaspreet Singh and ASI Varinder Kumar accompanying him.

Punjab officials credited coordinated work across Punjab Police units — including the Anti‑Gangster Task Force and the Overseas Fugitive Tracking & Extradition Cell — and central and international partners, with assistance from agencies including the IPCU‑CBI, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs and Moldovan and Azerbaijani authorities.
