About The Academica

The Academica is a digital news publication providing journalism, analysis, explanation and related editorial content.

Details identifying the legal entity operating the publication and any additional statutory contact information will be published where required by applicable law.

Using The Academica

You may access publicly available content for lawful personal, informational and other permitted purposes, subject to these Terms and applicable law.

Some features may require an account, authentication, payment, eligibility requirements or acceptance of additional terms. Features may be introduced, changed, restricted or discontinued over time.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the service is lawful in the place from which you access it.

Reader accounts

Reader-account registration and production sign-in functionality may be introduced or activated progressively.

Where an account is available, you must provide information that is accurate enough for the account to operate properly and must not impersonate another person or create an account for fraudulent or abusive purposes.

You are responsible for safeguarding access to your account and for activity carried out through it where that activity results from your failure to protect your credentials or authenticated session.

You should notify us if you reasonably believe an account associated with you has been accessed without authorisation.

Comments and reader contributions

Where The Academica allows comments or other reader contributions, you remain responsible for the material you submit.

You must not submit material that:

  • is unlawful, fraudulent or deliberately misleading;
  • threatens, harasses or unlawfully targets another person;
  • infringes copyright, privacy, confidentiality or other rights;
  • contains malicious software, harmful code or attempts to interfere with the service;
  • contains unauthorised advertising, spam or deceptive solicitation;
  • impersonates another person or falsely represents its origin; or
  • otherwise seriously undermines the safety or integrity of the service.

We may review, moderate, reject, restrict, remove or preserve reader contributions where reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, comply with law, protect users, maintain editorial or community standards, investigate abuse or preserve evidence.

Licence for material you submit

You retain ownership of copyright or other rights that you lawfully hold in material you submit.

By submitting material for public display through a feature such as comments, you grant The Academica a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, publish and technically adapt that material as reasonably necessary to operate, moderate, distribute and preserve the relevant service.

This licence does not transfer ownership of your material to The Academica. It continues only to the extent reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including maintaining records or archived discussions where lawful.

Material submitted specifically as confidential correspondence, legal correspondence or a news tip is not converted into public user-generated content merely because it was sent to us.

News tips, sources and submissions

Sending us information, documents, a news tip, story idea or other material does not guarantee investigation, coverage or publication.

We may independently assess, verify, corroborate, investigate or decline material submitted to us.

Unless expressly agreed otherwise, submitting a story idea does not create an employment, agency, partnership, fiduciary or contractual relationship with The Academica.

Do not submit material that you are legally prohibited from disclosing. Ordinary email should not be treated as guaranteeing anonymity, confidentiality or secure transmission.

Editorial content

The Academica determines its own editorial coverage, presentation, headlines, corrections, updates and publication decisions.

Editorial content may include news reports, analysis, commentary, explainers, data, graphics, images and other forms of journalism. Different forms of content may involve different levels of interpretation, opinion or uncertainty.

We aim to report accurately and to correct substantive errors when appropriate, but journalism can concern fast-moving events and information may change after publication.

Publication of an allegation, quotation, claim or third-party position does not necessarily mean that The Academica endorses it.

Artificial intelligence and technology

The Academica uses technology, including artificial intelligence, in parts of its editorial and publishing workflow. Such systems may assist with activities including research, organisation, classification and preparation of content.

The use of technology does not remove The Academica's editorial responsibility for material it publishes. Our publishing processes are designed around source-based reporting, verification and human editorial oversight.

Automated systems can make mistakes. Readers should therefore report suspected factual errors through our published correction or editorial contact channels.

Information is not professional advice

The Academica publishes journalism for general informational and editorial purposes. Unless expressly stated otherwise, content is not provided as personalised legal, financial, medical, investment, tax or other regulated professional advice.

News reporting about a professional subject does not create a professional-client relationship between you and The Academica, an author, source or person quoted in an article.

Where a decision depends on your individual circumstances, you should obtain appropriate professional advice rather than relying solely on general news coverage.

Our intellectual property

Articles, original text, graphics, photographs, illustrations, designs, branding, logos, software and other material made available through The Academica may be protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual-property laws.

Except where law permits otherwise or we expressly authorise it, you may not reproduce, republish, sell, systematically redistribute, modify or commercially exploit protected material belonging to The Academica.

Nothing in these Terms prevents uses permitted by applicable law, including lawful quotation, criticism, review, research or other statutory exceptions where their requirements are satisfied.

Rights in third-party material appearing through the service remain with their respective owners.

Automated access, scraping and technical misuse

You must not use the service in a manner that damages, disables, overloads, circumvents or materially interferes with our systems or other users.

Without permission, you must not use automated tools to extract content at a scale or frequency that materially burdens our infrastructure, bypasses technical restrictions, defeats access controls or substitutes for licensed commercial access.

Automated access that is expressly authorised by us or permitted by applicable law remains subject to any applicable technical limits, licence terms or documented access conditions.

Prohibited conduct

You must not:

  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts or systems;
  • probe, scan or exploit vulnerabilities without lawful authorisation;
  • interfere with authentication, security or anti-abuse controls;
  • introduce malware or other intentionally harmful code;
  • use the service for fraud, impersonation or other unlawful conduct;
  • collect personal information about users unlawfully;
  • falsely suggest endorsement, partnership or affiliation with The Academica; or
  • encourage another person to engage in prohibited conduct.

Advertising and sponsored material

The Academica may display advertisements, sponsorships or other commercial material.

Paid or sponsored material should be distinguished appropriately from independent editorial journalism. Commercial relationships do not entitle advertisers or partners to determine independent editorial coverage.

Advertising may be provided directly by The Academica or through third parties. Your dealings with an advertiser are between you and that advertiser unless expressly stated otherwise.

Subscriptions and paid services

The Academica may introduce subscriptions, memberships or other paid products. Availability of a subscription page or reference to a future paid service does not by itself mean that purchases are currently available.

Where paid products are offered, the commercial terms applying to pricing, billing, renewal, cancellation, refunds and payment processing may be set out separately in our Terms of Sale or at the point of purchase.

Third-party links and services

The Academica may link to websites, documents, platforms or services operated by third parties. Links may be provided as sources, references, context or conveniences for readers.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, we do not control those external services and are not responsible for their availability, security, content, privacy practices or terms.

A link does not necessarily constitute endorsement of the linked organisation or everything published by it.

Availability and changes to the service

We may modify, suspend, restrict or discontinue parts of the service for operational, editorial, security, legal or business reasons.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of every page, feature, archive, account function or third-party integration.

Content may be corrected, updated, moved, archived, restricted or removed where appropriate.

Suspension and termination

We may restrict, suspend or terminate access to an account or interactive feature where reasonably necessary because of serious or repeated violations of these Terms, security risks, unlawful conduct, abuse, fraud or other legitimate operational reasons.

Where appropriate and practicable, we may provide notice or an opportunity to address the issue, but immediate action may be taken where necessary to protect users, systems, evidence or legal rights.

Disclaimers

The service and its content are provided on an "as available" basis to the extent permitted by applicable law.

We do not warrant that every part of the service will always be uninterrupted, error-free, completely secure or permanently available.

Nothing in these Terms excludes any warranty, right or obligation that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Academica will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising solely from your use of, or inability to use, the service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer or other mandatory law.

These Terms do not remove legal rights that you may have independently of them.

Corrections, complaints and rights enquiries

If you believe an article contains a factual error, you may contact our editorial team using the details on our Contact Us page.

Copyright, privacy, legal and other rights-related enquiries can be sent to legal@theacademica.com.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are intended to operate in accordance with applicable Indian law.

The specific contractual jurisdiction and courts applicable to the operator of The Academica should correspond to the legal entity and registered place of business through which the publication operates. Those details will be stated here when the operating entity is finalised.

Nothing in these Terms prevents a person from using a statutory complaint, consumer, regulatory or dispute-resolution mechanism that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as our services, business, technology or legal obligations change. The date at the top of the page indicates the most recent revision.

If a change materially affects an existing account or paid service, we may provide additional notice where appropriate or required by law.
