A sudden flash flood struck the Nepal–China border area on or around 26 August 2026, linked by reporting to a glacier collapse or landslide. Casualty figures rose rapidly as search operations widened downstream; government tallies reported up to 479 bodies recovered. Dozens of bridges and about 40 km of roads were damaged, leaving many communities isolated and forcing helicopter evacuations.
